24 Coffee Beans and a 2 Mile Run

Thursday last week was the trial run for the Oyster Urban Adventure Race that I'm participating in later this month and it ended up being way more of a trial than I thought it would be. But it was a blast!

We met down in Ballard and about 30 to 40 people showed up with their bikes and all crammed into Market Street Athlete. My whole team was there of Mayli, Mandy and myself and we had Venice, an Australian join our team for the evening events.

We were given a sheet of tasks to complete. You could do all but the last task in any order, but you had to completely finish a task before you could go on to the next.

We started by getting 24 coffee beans (from the Tully's up the street), picking up 24 pieces of garbage, taking a photo of a lady with a shopping bag and a person with Seahawks apparel.
We also had to find 3 stores or street signs beginning with the letter "S" which we were able to find all within a block from the starting point.

Finally we jumped on our bikes and did an uphill ride all the way to Sunset Hill Park overlooking the Puget Sound. Fortunately the ride back was all down hill where we started our last task of 2 mile runs.
We were in 4th place when we started our run but due to some bad instructions we all ended up doing the 2 mile run and apparently the last person didn't have to so we finished dead last. But we had a blast doing it!

This was a good preparation for the actual urban adventure to come. Our trial run took us a little over an hour and we were beat. The actual day will probably take about 6 hours to complete. This was a small taste of things to come but I'm pumped and ready to go.

  1. We weren't dead last, one other group had finished shortly after us!
